A good day and some lyrics.

And a lame title. At least as far as my expectations for my own titles go. The title should've been, 'What A Fantabulous Day, And Now It's Time For Lyric Time With Mark!"

But that's a bit obnoxious, isn't it?

Anyway, so back on topic. It was a really good day for me. Busy, but good. I worked an 8 hour shift, finished all my school, and just got back from spanish class a little bit ago. And therefore I am happy.

And when I was driving back from Levine campus in Matthews, I wrote a song in my head, and just typed it up a couple of minutes ago. And here it is.

(Be aware that this is the product of about 15 minutes worth of thinking and inspiration, so it might not be the most polished song ever written. I might edit and improve it as time goes on, but you get the basic idea)

Verse 1:

I know a man who told me, “Don’t waste your life.”

He said, “You’ve got so many years, so son please use them right.”

I said, “Father, can you tell me how to make the right choices?”

He said, “Son, all you’ve got to do is put your faith in God.”

Chorus:

Then I said, “Father, I want to make you proud.

I want to live my life the way you’d want me to,

The way that I’ve been taught.

Father, I know sometimes it seems

I don’t put enough effort into living

But please believe me when I say,

I want to make you proud.”

Verse 2:

When I’m older, and maybe have a son of my own

I’ll never forget the man that guided my young life

And when I have the chance to talk to my son

I will simply tell him, “Don’t waste your life.”

Bridge:

Father, I won’t waste my life

Father, I’ll make the right choices

Father, I’ll put my trust in Christ

Father, I’ll make you proud

Have a good night yall.

~Mark

  1. I'm glad it was a 'fantabulous' day for you! =)

Wow, Mark! Isn't it funny how we get inspirations for songs at the strangest times? But very good =) Especially considering that you wrote it while you were driving.

  2. Thanks Emily :)

Yeah I generally have more inspiration for writing lyrics when it's incredibly silent and monotonous. Like it is when you spend 30 minutes driving down a highway at night.

Oh yes. Or at very inconvenient times. Or 1am. haha

  4. My titles are lamer... they're like "Boring post #15," and I'm serious.

Excellent lyrics, Mark. I love lyrics that are completely about real life, but also reference God. It's the best way to reach an audience. =)
